Judges’ Statement:
This project consists of seven city blocks on Capitol Hill. What was once a poor pocket of has been remade into a vibrant, mixed-income enclave
of LEED-certified homes and green spaces—all walking distance from shopping and public transportation, in a famed historic district of Washington, DC. A combination
of market-rate and workforce townhomes with no visible distinction between them supports the sense of community that defines the Capitol Hill neighborhood. These
townhomes feature three or four levels with rooftop terraces, up to four bedrooms, and alley-loaded parking. The streets of the Hill are filled with late-19th and 20th
century townhouses, setting a high bar for new construction like EYA at Capitol Quarter. This is architecture that exceeds expectations, co-existing in harmony with its
older forebears while creating a high-quality and sustainable neighborhood. Its grand award is well deserved.
