Community Statement
A fter returning from war, the vast majority of veterans struggle to regain ground, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder along with a
host of other psychological injuries and ailments. In hopes of providing a safe place in which to recover, the program hosts a “science-based, experiential rehabilitation”
retreat to refocus veterans through confidence-building exercises, therapy, outdoor excursions and fly-fishing. Located within a picturesque river valley, rests the refuge
center for the rehabilitation program. Once located in Michigan, the barn’s original structure was moved—piece by piece—and then redesigned and repurposed for
the unique needs of the program. Downstairs, an open floor plan offers flexibility to suit group activities, recreation, dining, therapy, and relaxation. Upstairs, a bunk
room affords group members comfortable sleeping accommodations, a large bath, and a loft retreat. The repurposed barn with its wide-open floor plan and its stunning
location makes the perfect sanctuary for veterans recovering from war-time trauma.
