Judges Statement:

Purchased in 2012 with the intent of preserving the Melrose Theatre building and what was left of the retail center for use by the next generation of

Nashvillians.

There was little change to the outward appearance of the existing buildings. As much of the building as possible was saved including the marble, canopies and

brick bulkhead below the window units. Those features were repaired as needed to present a new and unified appearance. The storefronts were replaced, as the older

wooded storefronts were deteriorated and would not meet current energy standards. 220 apartment units fit perfectly into the space by using a unique building mixture of

E-Urban®, interior corridor and podium. Studio, 1 and 2 bedroom units are available for rent.

The Sinema restaurant worked to preserve the “movie” theme of the old lobby space, leaving the mirrors on the walls and ceiling as they were discovered.

The Sutler restaurant operated out of a portion of the shopping center for 30 years. It has been moved only a few feet away from its original location, and certainly with

an updated ambiance. An unused basement area became The Sutler Cellar adding to the character of the building. Outstanding job!
