Best Single FamilyDetachedHome—

2,500 to 2,999 sq. ft.

Judges Statement:

Situated on a 4500 sf lot, this alley loaded 2900 sf home lives large by eliminating unused rooms from the “typical” SFD design program and

creating an open plan living experience consisting of three primary rooms on the main level. The Kitchen, Dining and Living areas are all positioned to create individual

room identity while maintaining the requisite open plan. A playful entry volume is expressed from the entry deep into the plan past the living room and the stairway.

Equally intriguing was the decision to widen the first flight of stairs, creating a greater sense of space and comfortable vertical circulation. The interior theme of the home

is complimentary to the homes modern/transitional exterior, allowing a seamless transition from outside to inside.

The Judges appreciated the use of stone, brick and siding on the building’s exterior to carefully break down the two story massing, while using color palettes that

reinforce the integrity of the elevation theme. The front entry experience is enhanced by a single story human scale roof element that compliments the buildings

overall esthetic.
