Judges Statement:

This new Malibu home design boasts over 9,000 sf of modern living planned on a bluff top overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The home’s design

centers around the need to protect neighboring views and existing blue water corridors from Pacific Coast Highway. To achieve this, the design team elected to nestle

the home into the hillside and thereby limiting the overall building height to less than 18 feet above grade. The house boasts green roofs, interior open air sculpture

garden, grey water irrigation, rainwater retention, solar, radiant heat floors, home battery system, passive heating and cooling strategies and locally sourced materials and

appliances. Considering the site design challenges forcing the home to be sunken into the topography, the Judges were impressed with the design teams’ ability to still

maintain a home that remains lightweight as it appears to be floating over the entry level gallery. With the benefit of wall to floor glass and impressive views from every

space, one would never realize that any sacrifice or concession was every made in its design
