Best Renovated, Restoredor Adaptive Re-Use Residential Project

Judges Statement:

Renovation of any building to a residential use is difficult, but the

renovation of a former hospital which has been abandoned for more than 20 years takes

talent. Also honoring the Spanish Mission style exterior and existing structure takes special

skills. This hospital which was built in the 1920’s and 1930’s was expertly transformed into

120 affordable senior units, community room, library, computer room, performance space

and rooftop lounge. The former grounds now incorporate community gardens and BBQ

areas. This urban setting East of Downtown Los Angeles in proximity to a large public park

make this an ideal conversion to senior housing.
