This Grand Award is for one of the most
creative land plans the judges have seen inside or outside this
competition. The well thought out land plan incorporated a
very fine mix of residential products with retail/office uses. The
design of a 100 foot wide privately owned and professional
y managed agricultural buffer from commercial agricultural
areas was a master stroke of planning. This farm to table
land plan was the perfect recipe for the City of Davis buyers.
Within this area is a farm house/welcome center, working
barn, orchards, gardens and row crops that appear as if
they have been there for a century. What a great idea to get
this established well before home sales were under way.
The execution of the farm house interpretive architecture
was incorporated all the way through the project including
the wayfinding and place making elements. The low board
formed concrete walls and signage played well with the
natural grasses throughout the entry area. Congratulations
to the design team on a truly superb planning effort that
exceeded the judge’s expectations. Roger, the world needs
more of your genius, and a builder willing to implement your
vision. The judges are ecstatic that it’s a financial success.
Congratulations on a unanimous decision by the judges.
